Hey Siri … Tips on Parenting
“Hey Siri. What are the top 10 tips on parenting.” Siri’s reply reads like a recipe for a chocolate cake … “Fill your home with love and respect. Listen to your children’s feelings and thoughts. Focus on what is good about your children, have your children do things for themselves …” Add some salt and sugar and bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Voila! Out comes an adult.

You are a critical link, passing on your faith and wisdom to the next generation. As a parent, you matter. Your kids matter. It is never too late to join in the process. Fulfill God’s purposes for you as a parent.
Sounds Cheap and Plastic to Me
Sorry if I sound out of touch. But, when I read this kind of “advice” a wave of skepticism comes over me like a rogue wave at the beach. These words don’t resonate with me. They seem a little too etherial, too fanciful, too predictable, too pre-chewed and regurgitated. They are nice ideas. But, they are fragmented tips that do not answer my more profound, cohesive questions like, what do I want to reproduce in my children and why? In addition, the uniqueness of every family, mine included, leaves this general “Siri” advice with the problem of one size does not fit all.
Biblical Advice
For parenting advice, I find myself wanting to turn to the ancients for some counsel that is tried and true. I want guidance and wisdom that has stood the test of time. So, in this Bible study, we will look at several passages in the Bible to glean a little help. Be prepared to read quite a few Bible verses. I will not give you cheap advice. I will not solve all your unique family situations. I will point you to the Bible and see what it says, in the hope that the Holy Spirit will advise you and God the Father will counsel you.
